Favia speciosa forms compact, dome-shaped or hemispherical colonies with prominent, deeply recessed corallites (polyp cups). Coloration is highly variable, ranging from tan, brown, and green to vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds, often with contrasting oral discs or polyp coloration creating a distinctive "star" pattern.
