The Eyestripe Surgeonfish is a large, deep-bodied yellow tang with a distinctive dark eye stripe running horizontally through the eye. The body is predominantly golden-yellow with darker dorsal and anal fins. It has the characteristic sharp spines (scalpel-like) along the caudal peduncle typical of the Acanthuridae family.
