About Fingered Dragonet

Dactylopus dactylopus is a small, ornate dragonet with an elongated body and intricate patterning of cream, orange, and brown coloration overlaid with fine reticulations. The anterior dorsal fin is enlarged and fan-like with distinctive finger-like rays (the "fingered" common name), and the body is somewhat flattened laterally with a pointed snout. Males display more vibrant coloration and larger dorsal fins than females.

Dactylopus dactylopus is a small, ornate dragonet with an elongated body and intricate patterning of cream, orange, and brown coloration overlaid with fine reticulations. The anterior dorsal fin is enlarged and fan-like with distinctive finger-like rays (the "fingered" common name), and the body is somewhat flattened laterally with a pointed snout. Males display more vibrant coloration and larger dorsal fins than females.
Origin
Indo-Pacific region from the Red Sea and East Africa through Southeast Asia to the Philippines and Indonesia, typically found in sandy and rubble substrates at depths of 5–40 meters.

Care Requirements
• Minimum 30 gallon tank with deep sand bed (3–4 inches) for natural foraging behavior • Requires temperature range 72–78°F, pH 8.1–8.3, salinity 1.023–1.025 • Feed small live or frozen foods (copepods, mysis shrimp, amphipods) 2–3 times daily; supplement with quality frozen preparations • Peaceful disposition but very slow-moving and easily outcompeted for food by faster fish; keep with calm tankmates • Provide stable, mature aquarium with minimal water parameter fluctuations; sensitive to poor water quality and starvation
