About Royal Gramma

A small, deep-bodied fish with distinctive bicolored coloration: the head and anterior body are bright purple or deep violet, while the posterior body and tail are bright yellow. The body shape is laterally compressed with a blunt snout and small mouth adapted for feeding on zooplankton in deep reef crevices.

Moderately challenging for beginners. Royal Grammas require excellent water quality, stable conditions, and frequent small feedings. They are shy by nature and need plenty of rockwork or caves to feel secure, and they may hide extensively if stressed or intimidated.

• Tank size: Minimum 20 gallons; 30+ gallons preferred for groups • Water parameters: 72–78°F, pH 8.1–8.4, SG 1.023–1.025 • Setup: Plenty of caves, crevices, and live rock for shelter and territorial behavior • Diet: Omnivorous; mysis shrimp, small crustaceans, quality flake food • Compatibility: Peaceful but territorial with own species; keep singly or established pairs in larger tanks
