Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, East Africa, and extending eastward to the Hawaiian Islands and Tuamotu Archipelago. Found in coral reef environments at depths typically between 10 and 60 meters.

In captivity, this species feeds on a varied diet of finely chopped meaty foods, high-quality marine flakes, and small frozen items such as mysis shrimp and copepods. Feed a balanced omnivorous diet to support coloration and health.
